"The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved." -- Confucius

AP: MSNBC says Olbermann, Matthews won't anchor

NEW YORK - MSNBC is replacing Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as co-anchors of political night coverage with David Gregory, and will use the two newsmen as commentators.

About the only thing I can say, besides ROFL and several derivations thereof, is uhm... yeah. David Gregory? Like he's not one of those reporting from "inside the tank". At least he's better at hiding it than Matthews and Olbermann are. Then again, I'm better at hiding elephants in my butter dish than Matthews and Olbermann are at hiding the fact that they're totally in the tank for [insert Democrat general election candidate's name here].

So, I suppose you can give Gregory that. Me, I'd rather have someone fawning like a teenage girl at a Beatles concert going on about the various locations that are having tingly feelings or sounding like a sanctimonious bore tediously lecturing us as if we're five year olds. That way you know who they are and know where they're coming from and you can take what they say with the appropriately sized grain of salt.

The problem is that MSNBC, and by extension NBC, has been trying to pass off commentators as journalists and folks have finally said enough. I'll have to take a wait and see approach as to how Mr. Gregory does. I hope he doesn't start speaking French in an attempt to make anyone look stupid. Not that he's prone to that, mind you.
